The Park is of International status since it extends into Panama. Within the Park include the Talamanca Indigenous Reserves of the Atlantic slope and by the Ujarrás, Salitre and Cabgra Indigenous Reserves of the Pacific slope of the Cordillera de Talamanca. Habitats such as paramos, swamps, oak groves, strawberry trees, ferns and mixed forests, and incorporate 7 life zones and 6 transition zones according to the Holdridge life zone classification system.
Regarding fauna, 263 species of amphibians and reptiles have been listed, along with such mammals as tapir, puma, jaguar, ocelot, and tolomuco, in addition to over 400 species of birds. Of the several trails that exist, one of the longest is the Valle del Silencio that takes about 6 hrs. to walk the 20 km distance.
