The Sanctuary is located in Quizarra, Perez Zeledon, and covers 78 ha., with 50 ha. of primary forest and the rest of secondary growth. The longest trail is about 2 km long, with elevations throughout the Sanctuary varying from 800 m to 3820 m above sea level. At the end of one trail is an Indian petroglyph site that dates back to the Pre-Columbus era. Over 300 species of birds have been noted, along with agouties, coatis, snakes and other forms of wildlife.
